Boy Scouts Bring In the Goods
Scouting for Food a project that began in the St. Louis area is now the biggest food drive in the whole Boy Scouts of America organization. Each year the boys bring in about 2 million food items, and it's never been more important than now.
With poor economic conditions dragging on, the pantries are seeing a strain. As an example last year the Peace Pantry in Cedar Hill prepared Thanksgiving groceries for 135 families. This year 183 families took home the meal, an increase of 35%
The community came through for those families this year, however, and 14,508 items were donated to replenish the shelves of the Peace Pantry.
"We have a lot of wonderful people in our community and they've been good to the Peace Pantry," said Director Connie Stretch.
